Amorim appointed as new manager

Another new manager. Another new era.

The club have announced that Ruben Amorim will be taking on the role of Head Coach for the men’s first team, pending his work visa approval.

Amorim has signed a contract until June 2027, with the club holding an option for an additional year. He will officially join United on Monday, 11 November, once he completes his commitments with his current club.

Amorim is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches. A highly accomplished figure both as a player and as a manager, his achievements include leading Sporting CP to two Primeira Liga titles—one of which was the club’s first in 19 years.

In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to manage the team until Amorim’s arrival.

My reaction and more

This feels like a more positive step. He is among the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting which happened to be the the club's first league title in 19 years. Onwards and upwards.

A neutral perspective

We caught up with Sean M, a Celtic fan. He said United fans should be pleased with this news.

I think this could be a great appointment. This marks a new chapter, filled with both promise and anticipation. Known for tactical understanding and success in the Portuguese league with Sporting Lisbon, Amorim arrives with a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young managers. With United investing heavily in young talent and Amorim’s track record of building dynamic, attacking sides, there’s a sense that this could be the start of something special. The rest of the Premier League needs to stop his gloating. Man United could be back.
