Post match review: United 2 - 3 Forest

Lol. The Manchester United circus continues.

It has been a crazy 24 hours. Let's start with the shambolic defeat against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Before kick-off, Old Trafford came together in a heartfelt round of applause to honour Kath Phipps, celebrating her life and decades of dedication to the club following her recent passing.

Ruben Amorim made four changes to his starting XI from the midweek clash against Arsenal. Among them was a full debut for summer signing Leny Yoro, while Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez returned from suspension, the latter marking his 50th Premier League appearance.

In testing conditions brought on by Storm Darragh, Nikola Milenkovic gave Forest an early advantage with a well-placed header. Rasmus Højlund levelled the score, but Forest regained control after the break, striking twice in quick succession through Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.

Bruno Fernandes managed to pull one back, but despite a determined push in a tense finale, Forest held firm to secure the victory.

My opinion

One of our main issues reared its head again today, just as it did on Wednesday – a vulnerability to aerial balls and set pieces. Nottingham Forest capitalised almost immediately, with defender Nikola Milenkovic heading his side into the lead in just the second minute from yet another set-piece goal against the Reds.

Although we managed to level in the 18th minute through Rasmus Højlund, who pounced to finish a loose ball, there was little else to feel optimistic about as they headed into the half-time break.

Unfortunately, things only got worse after the restart. Forest regained the lead when Morgan Gibbs-White found the net, a goal stemming from a poor giveaway by Amad on the right. Despite the turnover, the danger should have been contained, but a rare mistake from Andre Onana proved costly. When he shifted to his right, misjudging a weak, central shot that should have been a routine save.

What happened after that, aside from Bruno's goal, was just a shambles.

Dan Ashworth departure

It Dan Ashworth has left the club after just five months in his role. Sources close to the situation revealed that Ashworth was informed of the decision following United’s home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
