Post match review: United 0 - 2 Newcastle

Image
Things can only get better Author - Liam C Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the final match of the calendar year. The visitors took an early lead just four minutes in, with Alexander Isak heading home, and they maintained their momentum, doubling the advantage through Joelinton after 20 minutes. Chances for United were hard to come by in a challenging first half. A disallowed second goal for Isak due to offside and Sandro Tonali striking the post from close range hinted that the damage could have been worse on another evening. Ruben Amorim's side showed more spark in the second half, with Harry Maguire hitting the woodwork on the hour mark, but United couldn’t find a way past Newcastle’s solid defence. Post match review: Wolves 2 - 0 United

Where do we even start with that nonsense? Another shocking performance.  Author - Liam C Wolverhampton Wanderers handed us our second consecutive Premier League defeat on Boxing Day, as the 10-man Reds lost 2-0 at Molineux. Matheus Cunha scored the crucial opening goal in the 58th minute, when his corner kick unexpectedly curled directly into Andre Onana's net—echoing a similar incident from the Carabao Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur the previous week. The most significant moment of the match occurred just after the start of the second half, when United captain Bruno Fernandes received a red card after picking up his second booking of the evening. Some die-hard reds would argue that we fought hard following Cunha's goal. Perhaps, they are correct. That just feels like desperation to me. Even with a full team, we looked devoid of any ideas. In the dying moments of the match, Hwang Hee-chan secured the three points for the Midlanders. A miserable afternoon. There's ...

Post match review: United 0 - 3 Bournemouth

LOL. Terrible day. We will head into Christmas languishing in 13th place, following another lacklustre performance that has yielded just seven points from Rúben Amorim’s first six games in charge. Author -  Liam Chadwick In the first-half, we were undone by Dean Huijsen’s 29th-minute header, as Bournemouth capitalised on the our vulnerability at set-pieces. Justin Kluivert doubled the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot, sending André Onana the wrong way after being fouled by Noussair Mazraoui. Just two minutes later, Antoine Semenyo was left unmarked to convert Dango Ouattara’s cross, punishing Kobbie Mainoo’s costly error in midfield. Premier League: 24/25 season news and stories from European Super Football Super Reds News What's going wrong? The funny thing is that we appeared to focus on defending set-pieces during the pre-match warm-up, but it seems the message isn't resonating with the players. Earlier this month, there was two goals conceded two goals from corn...

Post match review: city 1 - 2 United

Manchester is red Manchester United, all is forgiven. Author -  Liam Chadwick Check out some of the best reaction from the official Manchester United YouTube account. The dramatic win was as surprising as it was thrilling. For much of the match, the game had been a scrappy and uninspired affair, seemingly destined for an uneventful conclusion. Then, a late surge from our red shirted heroes changed everything. Ruben Amorim, still in the early days of his tenure, will cherish this victory as a key milestone in earning the trust and admiration of the club’s fans. City, uncharacteristically lacklustre under Pep Guardiola, failed to truly test United’s defence. Despite their subdued display, United had struggled to create chances themselves, aside from Fernandes’ earlier miss. Seizing on a wayward pass from Nunes, he drew a rash foul from the City midfielder to...

Back to winning ways! Rasmus Højlund came off the bench to score twice as we overturned a deficit to secure a crucial Europa League victory against Viktoria Plzeň. Author - Olivia T Togetherness. #MUFC || #UEL pic.twitter.com/bAvKAHcR2H — Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 12, 2024 Højlund, now with five goals in this season’s Europa League, sparked United’s second-half comeback with an impressive display after being introduced from the bench. The 21-year-old forward equalised following some clever link-up play between Antony and Amad Diallo. He reacted quickest to poke the ball home from close range after Diallo’s initial shot was blocked. Moments later, the Danish international struck again, latching onto Bruno Fernandes’ perfectly weighted pass before drilling a low shot into the bottom-right corner. Højlund’s heroics spared further embarrassment for goalkeeper André Onana, who was at fault for the opening goal. For the second game running, the Cameroon international ma...

Post match review: United 2 - 3 Forest

Lol. The Manchester United circus continues. It has been a crazy 24 hours. Let's start with the shambolic defeat against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford. Author -  Liam Chadwick Before kick-off, Old Trafford came together in a heartfelt round of applause to honour Kath Phipps, celebrating her life and decades of dedication to the club following her recent passing. A lovely tribute to the legendary Kath Phipps https://t.co/5zW3cla7lO — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) December 8, 2024 Ruben Amorim made four changes to his starting XI from the midweek clash against Arsenal. Among them was a full debut for summer signing Leny Yoro, while Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez returned from suspension, the latter marking his 50th Premier League appearance. In testing conditions brought on by Storm Darragh, Nikola Milenkovic gave Forest an early advantage with a well-placed header. Rasmus Højlund levelled the score, but Forest regained control after the break, strikin...

Post match review: Arsenal 2 - 0 United

It was another disappointing encounter at the Emirates Stadium Author - J amie P We slipped to a 2-0 defeat in a game that was decided by two set-pieces.  In the second half, goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba handed new head coach Ruben Amorim his first defeat on a wet and challenging night in the capital.  The Gunners’ effectiveness from corner kicks is well known, and they appeared likely to score from many of them, even in the absence of their main aerial threat, Gabriel, who was injured. This created a difficult challenge that we unfortunately could not overcome. More reaction to come on European Super Football

Post match review: United 4 - 0 Everton

Attacking football from United? What is this madness? Ruben Amorim secured his first Premier League victory in style as Manchester United cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over struggling Everton at Old Trafford. Author - Olivia T After a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town in Amorim's league debut last weekend and a midweek Europa League win over Bodo/Glim t, the Portuguese boss saw his side find their feet on Sunday. Despite a shaky start, they ultimately delivered a clinical performance, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both bagging two goals apiece. It was a match to forget for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who had been a summer transfer target for United. His misfortune played a key role in the home side’s opening goals. Rashford’s low strike took a deflection off Branthwaite's boot to give United the lead, and moments later, the centre-back was caught dithering on the ball. This allowed Amad Diallo to steal possession and set up Bruno Fernandes, who teed up Zi...
